Sources, in order of trust
- The app's official website and pricing page.
- Official feature pages, blog posts and changelogs.
- The official help center or FAQ.
- The Apple App Store listing (US store for prices in US dollars) and the Google Play listing, including age ratings and privacy labels.
- The official privacy policy and terms of service.
- Official announcements and social accounts.
- Reputable technology and news publications, for events such as shutdowns, data breaches, lawsuits and new laws.
- Reddit and other communities, for user sentiment only and always labelled as such.
Affiliate listicles and other review sites are never used as a source of facts.
What we record for every app
For each app we keep one structured record: official domain and operator, free plan, every visible subscription plan with its price and currency, credit or token packs, message, image and voice limits, NSFW rules, voice calls and messages, image and video generation, custom characters, memory, group chats, avatars, web, iOS, Android and desktop availability, minimum age, privacy policy and terms, data deletion, chat export, cancellation and refund rules, and the date of the last check. Our comparison tables, price tables and feature lists are generated from these records, so a correction in one place updates every page.
A field we could not confirm stays empty and shows as "Not confirmed". We never fill gaps from memory or from third-party sites.
What we do not do
- We do not invent prices, limits, features or privacy protections.
- We do not claim hands-on tests we did not run. When we describe what an app looks like, we say where we saw it (the public website, the store listing, the help center) and when.
- We do not publish scores or star ratings.
- We do not use affiliate or tracking links.
How lists are ordered
Ranked lists name their criteria at the top: for example free plan quality for free apps, documented memory features for apps with memory, or published privacy terms for private chat apps. Labels such as "best for voice" or "best free option" always come with the reason. We avoid a single universal "best app", because the right choice depends on what you want from a companion.
Prices
Prices are shown in US dollars. Many apps charge different amounts on the web, in the App Store and on Google Play, and some show local prices by country. We note where each price was seen. Where an app only lists prices in another currency, we convert at a dated European Central Bank reference rate and show the original price in brackets. The checkout page is always the final word.
Update schedule
- Pricing pages: monthly, or sooner when we learn of a change.
- App reviews, feature pages and lists: every one to three months.
- App store availability: every one to three months.
- Privacy pages: whenever a policy changes, and at least every three to six months.
- Guides: every six to twelve months.
- News: when the underlying facts change.
Images
We use official App Store and Google Play screenshots, screenshots of official websites, official promotional assets and, where useful, illustrative images. Adult-oriented apps are shown as they present themselves. Everyone depicted is an adult; we do not use images of minors or of characters who could be read as minors.
