What Is SpicyChat?

SpicyChat is a character chat platform run by NextDay AI Incorporated of Montreal, Canada, which also names a US company in Delaware and an EU company in Limassol, Cyprus. The site calls itself "NSFW AI Chatbots and Roleplay for Adults", and its Community Guidelines say all users must be at least 18.

It is not a single-companion app. SpicyChat works as a catalogue: you pick a chatbot someone else made, or build your own, and roleplay with it. The official download page claims a library of more than 300,000 NSFW characters, and the home page shows tag counts in the hundreds of thousands.

Who Is It For?

Based on what the official docs describe, SpicyChat suits:

• Adults who want text roleplay with many different characters rather than one long-term companion.
• People who want a free tier they can use for real before paying anything.
• Character creators who want public listings, tags, lorebooks and a creator leaderboard with analytics.
• Android users and anyone happy to use a browser, since those are the two supported routes.

It is a weaker fit if you want an App Store app on iPhone, real-time voice calls (none are documented), a 3D avatar, or a privacy policy that clearly explains what happens to your chats.

How SpicyChat Works

The home page and character catalogue can be browsed without an account, with tag filters, a leaderboard and recommendations. To chat you sign in with email, Google, Apple, X or Discord. We could not confirm whether a chat can start without an account.

Each chat runs on an AI model you choose. The docs list more than ten, from in-house or fine-tuned models such as Default 26B, Zeta G4 26B and SpicyXL 132B to third-party families such as Qwen3 235B, Kimi K2 and DeepSeek V3. Your tier decides which models you can select, and the docs themselves warn that the list "may not always be completely up to date".

Inside a chat you can regenerate, continue or edit messages, clone a chat to try a different direction, and switch between user personas: three on the free plan, then 10, 50 or 100 on the paid tiers. Director Mode lets you give the model direct instructions with /cmd.

Character Creation

Character creation is open on every plan, with no limit on how many chatbots you make. The official guide documents these fields:

• Basics: name, title, greeting and tags.
• Personality: up to 5,000 characters.
• Visibility: public, unlisted or private, plus a separate setting for whether other users can see the definition.
• Avatar: generated from a text prompt or uploaded (square image, up to 10 MB).
• Advanced: scenario and example dialogue.

The docs advise keeping the whole character definition to roughly 900 to 1,100 tokens. Lorebooks can attach extra world information, and characters can be imported from Character.AI character card files in JSON or PNG format. Chat Quality

We did not chat with SpicyChat characters for this review, so we cannot judge reply quality first-hand. What the docs make clear is that the experience depends heavily on your tier, because the text limits differ a lot:

I'm All In also unlocks generation settings (temperature, TopP and TopK) and the priority generation queue. The plan table lists "Skip The Waiting Lines" as a paid feature, which implies that free users can end up in a queue, but no wait time is published.

User reports. On Trustpilot (an unclaimed profile with 61 reviews, checked October 20, 2026) the TrustScore is 2.1, and about half of the reviews give one star. Recurring complaints are automated moderation with no route to a human, paywalled features and message caps, long waits in the generation queue (one 2026 reviewer mentions 10 to 20 minutes), repetitive or bland replies, and personas or genders not being respected. Positive 2026 reviews praise the free tier and the size of the library. This is a small, self-selected sample, not a measurement.

Personality and Roleplay

Roleplay is SpicyChat's core use case, and the toolset is built around it:

• Scenarios and example dialogue set the scene and the character's voice.
• Lorebooks hold world details, and rulebooks can include meters.
• Director Mode sends instructions to the model with /cmd.
• Group chats put 2 to 10 chatbots in one public or private conversation. Smart auto-responses for group chats come with Get A Taste.
• User personas let you play different characters yourself.

Memory

SpicyChat has several layers of memory, and most of them sit behind the paywall:

• Context window: 4,096 tokens on free and Get A Taste, 8,192 on True Supporter, up to 32,768 on I'm All In.
• Memory Manager (Get A Taste and above): add, edit, delete and pin memories of up to 250 characters each.
• Semantic Memory 2.0 (True Supporter and above): automatically summarizes chats into memories.
• Lorebooks: a manual layer for world facts that you attach to characters.

In general, a smaller context window means the model sees less of a long conversation at once, so free users rely on the shortest memory. Our page on AI companions with memory compares these systems across apps.

Voice Features

Voice on SpicyChat means text-to-speech playback of the AI's replies, and it is only in the top tier, I'm All In ($29.95 a month). The docs list several male and female voices, a Narration Mode, and Custom Voices made from audio samples you upload. They also say there is no limit on how many messages you can play with text-to-speech.

Image Generation

SpicyChat's image feature is called Conversation Images. It draws the current scene from the character's avatar, its description and the last message, in an Anime or Semi-Realistic style. The docs name DreamShaper-8 as the diffusion model, and image style, LoRA scale and the NSFW toggle are global settings rather than per-character ones.

• Free and Get A Taste: no Conversation Images.
• True Supporter ($19.95 a month): "Generate Unlimited In-Chat Images", for select characters only.
• I'm All In ($29.95 a month): images for any character, including your own private ones.

An avatar generator for characters is available on every tier. Video generation is not mentioned anywhere in the docs or on the pricing page. Our AI girlfriend image generation page lists apps that make pictures on lower tiers.

Adult / NSFW Features

Adult content is the platform's stated focus. The official FAQ says every chatbot, including those listed as SFW, can engage in NSFW roleplay, and profile settings let you show or hide NSFW chatbots and blur explicit images. On paid tiers, Conversation Images have an NSFW Mode that, in the docs' words, allows "nude depictions of your character and explicit situations".

The download page markets "Uncensored Roleplay Chat" and "explicit chat content with no restrictions", but that is marketing, not a separate mode. The Community Guidelines and Terms still prohibit several categories, including any character who is a minor, non-consensual content, incest and family roleplay, and photorealistic pornography, and public pages are moderated. Age verification for NSFW content

In some regions SpicyChat requires an age check before any NSFW content is shown. The official age-verification page lists:

• Countries: France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Australia.
• US states (26): Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.

The check is a video selfie run by a third-party partner, with an ID fallback; some regions use an ID with a face match. Your region is decided by your current IP address, and the result is tied to your account. Unverified users can still use the platform, but NSFW content is not accessible to them. According to the docs, SpicyChat does not see or store the selfie or ID images: the partner returns a yes or no answer and deletes the data under its own standards. Outside the listed regions, only an 18+ declaration applies.

Mobile and Web Availability

Web: the browser app is the main product (version 4.6.0 when we checked). It works in desktop and mobile browsers, and there is no separate desktop app. Our list of browser-based AI girlfriend apps covers others that need no download.

iPhone and iPad: there is no SpicyChat app in the App Store. An official notice dated August 27, 2025 says Apple found the app did not comply with its guidelines and removed it. SpicyChat filed an appeal but called reinstatement very unlikely. Installed copies kept working until September 25, 2025, iOS subscriptions stopped renewing, and subscribers were told to re-subscribe on the web. A US App Store search on October 20, 2026 still returned no SpicyChat app. The docs suggest adding the web app to your home screen instead (in Safari: Share, then Add to Home Screen).

Android: the official Android app is an APK from the SpicyChat download page, not a Google Play app. A good habit with any APK is to download it only from the official site and keep installs from unknown sources switched off afterwards. NextDay AI's SFW sister app, PixelChat, is on Google Play (500K+ downloads, 3.2 stars from about 2,580 reviews), and the docs say a subscription bought through PixelChat also applies to SpicyChat. Pricing

SpicyChat raised all of its prices on September 8, 2026. The cheapest plan, Get A Taste, went from $5.00 to $5.95 a month, True Supporter from $14.95 to $19.95, and I'm All In from $24.95 to $29.95. Annual plans rose by similar amounts. The company says no features were removed, and existing subscribers keep their old price as long as their plan stays active and unchanged.

Euro prices use the same numbers as the dollar prices, and pound prices are a little lower. There are no credit or coin packs on the subscribe page: the "tokens" in the docs are units of text, not a currency. Free Plan

SpicyChat's docs say "core features remain accessible to everyone, free of charge". On the free plan you get:

• the default models, including Default 26B, Zeta G4 26B and several 8B models;
• a 4,096-token context window and replies of up to 180 tokens;
• three user personas and unlimited character creation;
• the avatar generator.

Paid tiers add ad-free chat, Memory Manager, Conversation Images, text-to-speech, more models and the priority queue. No free-tier message cap is published, although some Trustpilot reviewers report caps and long queues. For comparison, CrushOn.AI's free plan includes 100 message credits a month plus unlimited use of its free models, and Candy AI's help center caps free users at 5 messages. Privacy and Data Handling

This is SpicyChat's weakest area on paper. Here is what the official documents say, topic by topic:

• Privacy Policy: stamped "Last updated: May 04, 2023" and written like a generic template. It covers email, name, usage data (IP address, device identifiers, browser, pages, timestamps), social-login data and cookies, but does not mention chat content at all.
• Rights over your chats: the Terms grant SpicyChat a license to use chatbots, generations and chats "in any way, including copying, displaying, selling, distributing, and modifying it, for any purpose", while stating that the company does not own your chats. No opt-out is described.
• Model training: whether chats are used to train models is not stated anywhere.
• Human access: the Terms say the company "may access, review, edit, and delete Your content at any time and for any reason". Separately, staff and contractors are bound by an internal policy against unauthorized access to chats.
• Encryption: only a general mention of "advanced encryption techniques and anonymization processes where appropriate". In-transit and at-rest encryption are not specified.
• Retention: chats and personal data are kept "for as long as necessary", with no fixed period, and SpicyChat may delete chat content without notice.
• Sharing: service providers, affiliates, "business partners", payment processors and age-verification partners. No processor is named, and the policy has no "we do not sell" statement.

Deletion: you can delete your account under Profile, Advanced, Delete Account (permanent; the same email can register again), delete individual saved chats, or email [email protected]. Best Alternatives to SpicyChat

If the new prices, the age checks or the missing iOS app are a problem, these are the closest options we cover:

• CrushOn.AI: another character chat platform. Its free plan has 100 message credits a month plus unlimited free models, and paid plans start at $5.99 a month on its pricing page. Like SpicyChat, it has no official App Store listing.
• Janitor AI: another roleplay platform that allows adult content between consenting adult characters.
