How to Delete an AI Companion Account

1. Export what you want to keep, if the app allows it (how to export AI chat history).
2. Cancel any paid plan where you bought it (how to cancel a companion subscription). Deleting the account does not cancel at Kindroid.
3. Delete the account using the route in the table below, not just the app.
4. If there is no button, email an erasure request and keep the reply (see the template below).
5. Check the result: try to log in, save the confirmation email, and note the timeline, such as about 28 days at Nomi.

Deleting the App, the Chat and the Account Are Different

Removing the app from your phone leaves the account and any subscription untouched. Deleting a chat, a message or a single companion removes part of your data and, at some apps, the memory attached to it. Deleting the account is the step that reaches most data, usually after a delay and with legal exceptions. Replika, Nomi and Anima say explicitly that deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Cancel First, or Deletion May Fail

CrushOn.AI's FAQ says an account cannot be deleted while a subscription is active, and Nastia AI says to cancel the membership first. Candy AI works the other way: deleting the account before the renewal date also cancels, and Paradot's Terms say deleting in the app cancels at the end of the billing period. Kindroid is the exception to remember, because deleting the account does not cancel a paid service. Store subscriptions are never cancelled by deleting an account, so use the cancellation guide first.

How to Delete Chat Data Without Deleting the Account

Options exist but are uneven. Nomi lets you delete single messages and single Nomis, Kindroid lets you delete one Kindroid at a time, SpicyChat lets you delete saved chats, and Nastia AI deletes individual chats, images and videos. Muah AI offers Wipe Cloud Data and a per-slot Fresh Restart, and Candy AI's Reset Chat or Delete Chat clears the conversation and its memory together. Kupid AI says deleting a chat removes that companion's memory.

Replika is the clearest limit: its help center says there is no way to delete the whole message history without deleting the account, though you can delete individual memories. At CrushOn.AI, history older than 24 hours cannot be deleted message by message. A deleted message may also survive in a memory summary, as Muah AI warns. What Deletion Does Not Remove

Most policies have exceptions. Payment and accounting records are kept for tax law, with periods up to ten years at Romantic AI. Nomi keeps training archives that are no longer attributable to you, and Janitor AI may keep email and sign-in metadata. EVA AI does not recall data already sent to third parties, and Character.AI may keep a public Character you made. Backups are rarely mentioned. See the full list in our retention guide.

Legal Data Requests in Plain Words

When an app has no delete button, or you want more than the button does, data protection law is your tool. This is general information, not legal advice.

GDPR (European Union)

The EU's General Data Protection Regulation applies to companies established in the EU and to companies outside it that offer services to people in the EU. The European Commission lists these rights for individuals: access to your data and a copy, correction, erasure when data is no longer needed or is processed unlawfully, portability in a machine-readable format, and objection to direct marketing.

You contact the company, or its data protection officer, who must answer without undue delay and in principle within one month. The EDPB's small-business guide says that period can be extended by two further months if you are told within the first month, and that the company generally cannot charge you. It may ask for proof of identity and, if it refuses, must say why. Erasure is not absolute: the Commission lists exceptions such as a legal obligation to keep the data, the exercise of legal claims, and data that has been properly anonymised. If you are unhappy, you can complain to your national data protection authority.

CCPA (California)

The California Consumer Privacy Act gives California residents the right to know what a business holds, to delete personal information, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing, without being punished for asking. The California Attorney General's page says a business must respond within 45 calendar days, extendable by another 45 if it tells you, and that deletion is subject to exceptions, such as when the business must keep the data by law. The law applies only to businesses above set thresholds (for example, annual revenue over $25 million), and an app's policy does not always say whether it qualifies.

How to write the request

Send it from the account's email address, use the address in the privacy policy (see the table), and keep a copy. Replika routes GDPR erasure through a help-center form with a reply within one month and says erasure also reaches its AI model providers. DreamGF promises a response within 30 days, and Kupid AI within one month. Request a copy first if you want one; our export guide lists the apps that publish an access route.

If an App Is Sold or Shuts Down

Delete before a deadline, not after. Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026, says users can delete their account or export data in the app or website, and 40 attorneys general have asked the court to give users a chance to access and delete their data before any sale.
