Kindroid moved the other way on October 1, 2026, when it retired unlimited free messaging and replaced it with a one-time preview, and Candy AI's free account stops at 5 messages in total. Character.AI has the most generous free terms, with unlimited messages and free voice calls, but it filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026 and its future depends on a sale.
Free plans mostly cover text chat. Voice, image generation, longer memory, extra companions and an ad-free experience are what the paid tiers sell, with a few exceptions: Character.AI's calls are free, CrushOn.AI lists voice replies on its free plan, and Janitor AI, SpicyChat, CrushOn.AI and Nastia AI allow adult chat without paying.
