How to Cancel an AI Companion Subscription

To cancel an AI companion subscription, cancel where you pay: the App Store, Google Play or the app's own billing page. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Below are the store steps and the documented cancel route, renewal and refund rule for each of 19 apps, from official pages checked on October 20, 2026.

Quick answer

  • Cancel where you pay: the App Store, Google Play, the app's billing page or a payment provider. Your receipt email or card statement shows which.
  • Deleting the app does not cancel. Replika, Nomi and Anima say so, Google Play says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription, and at Kindroid deleting the account does not cancel either.
  • Access usually lasts to the end of the paid period, then the account drops to the free version.
  • Refunds are rare. Most apps say sales are final; store purchases are refunded by Apple or Google, not the app.
  • Some apps publish no in-account route: Chai gives none, Kupid AI points to email, and DreamGF points to its billing providers.
  1. Find where you pay. An Apple or Google receipt means a store subscription. Otherwise check the card statement and the app's billing page. Candy AI charges appear as "EverAI".
  2. Cancel in that place, using the store steps or the table below. A subscription bought in a store can only be cancelled there; Replika, Janitor AI and EVA AI say so.
  3. Cancel before the renewal date, and for any trial at least 24 hours before it ends, as Apple advises.
  4. Keep proof: a confirmation email or screenshot showing the end date.
  5. Then delete or export if you want to. Some apps block deletion while a plan is active. See how to delete an AI companion account and how to export AI chat history.

This guide belongs to our AI companion app guides. Store steps come from Apple and Google support pages, and app routes from each company's help center, terms or billing policy. We did not create accounts or pay, so we list documented routes, not screenshots of menus. Where an app publishes nothing, we say "not published".

Cancel an App Store Subscription (iPhone, iPad, Mac)

On an iPhone or iPad, Apple's support page gives these steps: in Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap the subscription, then tap Cancel Subscription (scroll down if you do not see it). On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, choose Subscriptions and Cancel Subscription. Apple also lists a web route through account.apple.com.

Apple's page says that if there is no Cancel button, or you see a red expiration message, the subscription is already cancelled. For trials it advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Read the steps in full on Apple's cancellation page.

Cancel a Google Play Subscription (Android)

Google's help page says to go to subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Sign in to the Google Account that holds the subscription, or it may not appear. Replika's and Nomi's help centers describe the same route as Google Play, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions.

The page warns that "When you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel", and that after cancelling you keep access for the period already paid. Full steps are on Google Play Help.

Cancel Route and Refund Rule for Each App

The table gives the documented route, what happens to access and what the app says about refunds. "Not published" means we found no official instruction.

Where the Cancel Button Hides

Most web cancellations sit under billing or membership, not account settings. Kindroid splits them: the Standard subscription is cancelled under Profile, then Billing, and Ultra and MAX are separate add-ons cancelled on their own. Character.AI sends you an emailed link to a Stripe customer portal, SpicyChat has a Manage Subscription button or a portal address, and Nastia AI puts Cancel membership inside a Danger Zone under Membership settings. Candy AI's Unsubscribe is at the bottom of the subscription details, and it offers no pause.

Two rules trip people up. Janitor AI says app subscriptions cannot be cancelled from its website, and Kindroid says you cannot switch a subscription between iOS, Android and the web until it runs out. Cancel in the place you paid, and check before re-subscribing elsewhere.

Apps That Cancel by Email or Payment Provider

Several apps skip a self-service button. Kupid AI's Terms tell users to email [email protected] to stop rebilling, and a company reply on Trustpilot says paid users also get an in-app support chat. Muah AI offers email, a settings page or the payment provider. DreamGF's Membership Policy promises cancellation at any time but names no route, so use the billing provider printed in its footer. GirlfriendGPT offers its manage-subscription page or CCBill. Anima and Romantic AI offer an account setting or support email for website purchases.

Chai publishes no cancellation steps at all, and Paradot publishes none for payments outside the stores. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, use Apple's or Google's steps above. If you paid another way, contact support and keep the reply.

Refunds: What to Expect

Almost every app treats sales as final. Replika, Nomi, Kindroid, Character.AI, Janitor AI, SpicyChat, Nastia AI, Muah AI, DreamGF and GirlfriendGPT all limit refunds to narrow exceptions such as legal requirements or technical errors. Candy AI is the tightest on paper: 24 hours after payment and no more than 20 tokens used. It also says cancelling is not a refund request, so email [email protected] within 24 hours.

In the EU and UK, Candy AI's Terms give a 14-day withdrawal right on the initial purchase only, not renewals, and Anima mentions one for the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland. Romantic AI and Paradot say the right does not apply to their digital product.

For store purchases, the app cannot refund you. Apple takes requests at Apple's refund page and does not guarantee approval. Google's help page says a refund may be possible within 48 hours of purchase through Google and that after 48 hours you should contact the developer. Disputing a charge with your bank has its own risk: Kindroid says users who dispute charges may be banned. Try the store or support first.

What Happens After You Cancel

  • Nomi: on downgrade to free, group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls become read-only, while one-to-one text chat with existing Nomis stays.
  • Kindroid: with no free plan, a lapsed account becomes read-only: you can view, play back, export and delete, but not send messages.
  • Candy AI: the account reverts to the free version. Its Terms say unused subscription tokens expire when the subscription ends, while a help-center article says the balance stays, so spend tokens first.
  • Janitor AI and CrushOn.AI: Janitor AI reverts to its free plan after the paid period, and CrushOn.AI keeps access to the end of the billing cycle.
  • SpicyChat: an existing price is locked only while the subscription stays active and unchanged.

Special Cases

  • Character.AI: after its October 12, 2026 Chapter 11 filing, the company says paid subscriptions stay active and billing is unchanged "for now". If you want out, cancel as usual. See the Chapter 11 news.
  • SpicyChat on iOS: the app left the App Store in August 2025, and its notice says iOS subscriptions stopped renewing, with users told to re-subscribe on the web. Check your Apple subscriptions list for old charges.
  • Kindroid trial: the 3-day trial needs a payment method and converts to a paid plan unless cancelled; Kindroid emails a reminder one day before.
  • Kupid AI: the pricing page says nothing renews, but the Terms mention rebilling and Trustpilot users report repeat charges (user reports). Check your card statement.
  • Anima: its site links an App Store page that returns a 404, so if you ever subscribed through Apple, cancel in your Apple ID settings.

FAQ

Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?

No. Replika, Nomi and Anima say so explicitly, and Google Play says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. Cancel in the store or the app's billing page.

Do I keep access after I cancel?

Usually until the end of the paid period. Nomi, Character.AI, Candy AI, CrushOn.AI, Janitor AI, Nastia AI, Romantic AI and Anima all state this. Then the account drops to the free version, or becomes read-only at Kindroid.

Can I get a refund after cancelling?

Rarely. Most apps say sales are final. Candy AI allows requests within 24 hours with at most 20 tokens used, Anima's website purchases allow 24 hours, and store refunds go through Apple or Google.

How do I cancel an app that publishes no cancel steps?

If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, cancel there. Otherwise email the support address in the app's terms, as Kupid AI's Terms direct, and keep the reply. Chai publishes no route at all.

Why was I charged after cancelling?

Common causes are cancelling after the renewal date, cancelling in the wrong place (a store subscription cancelled on the website, or the reverse), or a separate add-on. Kindroid's Ultra and MAX are cancelled separately from the Standard plan.
