Free AI Roleplay Apps

Janitor AI's free tier is "unlimited chats with millions of bots" on its built-in JLLM model, with a context of around 9,000 tokens, and the Help Center promises "a free option available for everyone". Creator tools cover bot image, bio, personality, scenario, example dialogue, scripts, lorebooks and personas. You can also connect an external model in API settings with your own key; the Terms treat configuring an API proxy as permitted use. Any cost then comes from the provider you connect.

Adult content between consenting adult characters is allowed, with a published ban list. The mobile apps (public beta) start in Restricted Mode, users in the UK, Australia and Brazil must pass a one-time k-ID age check, and there is no voice or image feature. The c.ai+ FAQ says: "We are proud to continue offering free and unlimited messaging for ALL users". Free accounts get the PipSqueak 3 and ShortSqueak chat styles, free voice and calls (see free AI girlfriend with voice), 15 memory pins and a basic Lorebook. The home page claims more than 10 million Characters. The costs are banner and interstitial ads, and slow mode or a waiting room when servers are busy.

Content is safe for work: pornography and nudity are prohibited for everyone, and every account goes through age assurance (users verified as under 18 cannot chat; some adults must pass a Persona selfie check). The company filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026 and says it will wind the platform down if no buyer keeps it running, with the sale expected around late November or early December. SpicyChat's docs say core features remain "accessible to everyone, free of charge". The free tier includes default models, a 4,096-token context, replies of up to 180 tokens, three personas and unlimited character creation. No message cap is published. The docs describe scenarios, lorebooks, Director Mode and group chats of 2 to 10 characters; the plan table itemizes only smart auto-responses for group chats as a paid extra, and ad-free chat, the Memory Manager and in-chat images are paid.

The library is large (the download page claims 300K+ characters), and you can import Character.AI card files. In France, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, NSFW content stays locked until an age check. CrushOn.AI's free plan gives 100 message credits a month and unlimited use of Free Models; Pro Models draw on credits and Ultra Models are not available. It also lists 8K memory, a maximum AI message length of 225 (unit not stated), 20 inspiration replies a day and no group chat. Replies can be slower at peak times, and free chat history is deleted after 7 days of inactivity.

The wiki describes roleplay-oriented tools such as custom instructions, trackers, edited replies and branching conversations, without itemizing which are free. Adult roleplay is available through its Unfiltered and Hidden Content switches. See the CrushOn.AI review.

Talkie's Terms call its free tier "Free Use", and the website is titled "Free AI Character Chat". It is ad-supported, and Talkie publishes no message, image or voice limits. Roleplay is central, and creators can build their own Talkies. The rules are the strictest on this list: the Community Guidelines ban explicit sexual content and also content with suggestive or implicit sexual undertones.

Chai is an iPhone and Android app; its web version is listed as "coming soon". Its privacy policy says ads appear for free subscribers, but the Safety Center adds: "In some regions, use of the service requires a paid subscription." Australia's eSafety Commissioner reported in March 2026 that Chai restricted free chat and now requires a subscription, without saying whether that applies outside Australia. The free allowance is not published.

Chai is 18+ with Persona age checks, and its Safety Center says the models are designed to refuse sexually explicit content. Check the paywall before investing time in characters. See the Chai review.
