Janitor AI vs SpicyChat

Janitor AI vs SpicyChat is a choice between two adult roleplay platforms that both let you chat for free, then charge for more in very different ways. Janitor AI has one paid plan and lets you plug in your own AI model; SpicyChat sells three tiers that add memory tools, in-chat images and voice playback. Below we compare the two on official pages checked in October 2026.

Quick answer

  • Choose Janitor AI if you want unlimited free chat on its built-in JLLM model, official iPhone and Android apps (in beta), or the option to connect your own AI model. There is one paid plan, janitor+, at $12.99 a month or $99 a year.
  • Choose SpicyChat if you want group chats with up to 10 characters, memory tools, in-chat images and voice playback in one service, and you are fine with a web app or an Android APK. Its tiers cost $5.95, $19.95 or $29.95 a month since September 8, 2026.
  • Adult content: both allow it for users 18 and over, with published banned categories. SpicyChat's paid tiers can generate nude images; Janitor bans nude and pornographic images.
  • Age checks: Janitor asks for a k-ID check to use the site from Australia, Brazil and the UK; SpicyChat asks for a selfie or ID before NSFW content in France, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 US states.
  • Privacy: Janitor's September 2026 policy says it does not sell personal data. SpicyChat's policy dates from May 2023, never mentions chats, and its Terms license chat content for uses that include selling.

Full write-ups: our Janitor AI review and SpicyChat review; more head-to-heads are on our comparisons page.

Same audience, different upgrade paths

Both are community platforms for adults: you pick a character someone else wrote, or write your own, and roleplay with it in text. Janitor AI (run by JanitorAI Inc.) claims "15M+ users" and "millions of bots"; SpicyChat (run by NextDay AI of Montreal) claims a library of more than 300,000 NSFW characters. Both require users to be at least 18.

The split shows when you want more. Janitor sells one plan, janitor+, and lets you bring your own model on any plan. SpicyChat sells a ladder of three tiers that add memory, longer replies and more models, with images and voice near the top. For better text from a stronger model, Janitor's route is simpler; for more features inside one service, SpicyChat has them.

Free tier: what you get without paying

Janitor AI lists its free tier as "Unlimited chats with millions of bots", the standard chat models and a context of around 9,000 tokens, and promises: "We will always keep a free option available for everyone." The built-in model, JLLM, costs nothing, and no daily message cap is published. In September 2025 Janitor tested ads on character pages for logged-out visitors.

SpicyChat says "core features remain accessible to everyone, free of charge". Free accounts get the default models (including Default 26B and Zeta G4 26B), a 4,096-token context window, replies of up to 180 tokens, three user personas and unlimited character creation. No free message cap is published either, but ad-free chat and "Skip The Waiting Lines" are listed as paid features, so free users should expect ads and a queue at busy times.

On paper Janitor's free context is about twice SpicyChat's, so the model sees more of a long story at once (our context window explainer shows why that matters). More options are in our list of free AI roleplay apps.

Prices below are what the official pages showed on October 20, 2026. SpicyChat raised every tier on September 8, 2026 (Get A Taste from $5.00, True Supporter from $14.95, I'm All In from $24.95); existing subscribers keep their old price while their plan stays active and unchanged.

PlanMonthlyAnnualMain additions
janitor+$12.99$99.00 ($8.25 a month)5x more context, priority replies, monthly "swipes" with the best models, more models, Router access on the web
SpicyChat Get A Taste$5.95$60.00 ($5.00 a month)No ads, Memory Manager, 4K context, up to 10 personas
SpicyChat True Supporter$19.95$199.95 ($16.66 a month)8K context, Semantic Memory 2.0, replies up to 300 tokens, images for select characters, more models, up to 50 personas
SpicyChat I'm All In$29.95$299.95 ($25.00 a month)Up to 32K context, text-to-speech and custom voices, priority queue, images for any character, premium models, up to 100 personas

SpicyChat's entry tier is the cheapest way to pay on either platform, but it keeps the free plan's 4,096-token context; it mainly removes ads and adds the Memory Manager. janitor+ sits between SpicyChat's first and second tiers in price. Neither offers a free trial or a lifetime plan, and SpicyChat sells no credit packs. Our SpicyChat pricing guide covers renewal and payment methods, and the September 2026 price increase has its own news page.

Models: bring your own or pick from a list

Janitor documents two ways to go beyond JLLM. On any plan you can add your own API configuration (model name, proxy URL, API key and an optional custom prompt); the help center's quickstart uses an OpenRouter endpoint with a DeepSeek model as its example, and the Terms of October 8, 2026 treat "configuring an API proxy in your settings" as permitted use. You then pay that provider directly. Subscribers can instead use the janitor+ Router on the web, launched July 30, 2026, which bills third-party models per token from a dollar wallet. Subscribers got $5 in launch credits, and Router credits are final sale.

SpicyChat offers more than ten models and lets you choose one per chat; your tier decides which are available. The docs name in-house or fine-tuned models such as Default 26B, Zeta G4 26B and SpicyXL 132B, and third-party families such as Qwen3 235B, Kimi K2 and DeepSeek V3, while warning that the list "may not always be completely up to date". I'm All In adds generation settings (temperature, TopP and TopK). SpicyChat documents no way to connect your own API key.

One trade-off of Janitor's flexibility: an outside model receives your messages under its own provider's terms, which Janitor's privacy policy does not cover.

Memory in long roleplays

Janitor's memory is the context window plus a Chat Memory field you write yourself. The help center says the model forgets the oldest text once the window (about 8,000 to 9,000 tokens on JLLM) is full, and janitor+ makes it five times larger. Scripts (beta) can add lorebooks and triggers, but no automatic long-term memory is documented. Google Play reviewers ask for a less manual memory system (user reports).

SpicyChat layers more tools, mostly behind the paywall: the Memory Manager (Get A Taste and up) for pinned memories of up to 250 characters each; Semantic Memory 2.0 (True Supporter and up), which turns chats into memories automatically; lorebooks for world details; and context that grows from 4,096 tokens to 8,192 and then up to 32,768 on I'm All In, depending on the model.

Free users get more recent conversation in view on Janitor; paying users who want memory handled for them get it from SpicyChat's True Supporter tier. Our page on AI companions with memory compares these tools with companion apps.

Group chats, images and voice

This is where SpicyChat leads on features:

  • Group chats: SpicyChat puts 2 to 10 characters in one public or private conversation. Janitor documents no group chat.
  • Images: SpicyChat's Conversation Images draw the current scene in an Anime or Semi-Realistic style, for select characters on True Supporter and for any character on I'm All In. Janitor has no image generation; creators only upload character pictures.
  • Voice: SpicyChat's text-to-speech reads replies aloud with preset or custom voices on I'm All In only, with no message limit. Neither platform documents real-time voice calls. Janitor's June 2026 announcement lists "voice and image" as planned, without a date.

Adult content rules compared

Janitor AI's Community Guidelines (February 4, 2026) say it "permits adult content between consenting adult characters". Characters with sexual or romantic themes must carry the "Limitless" tag. Banned outright: sexual content involving minors or characters coded as minors, incest between blood relatives, age regression, necrophilia, bestiality, and pornographic or nude images, avatars included. The mobile apps start in Restricted Mode, which you can switch off only in profile settings on the website.

SpicyChat's FAQ says every chatbot, including those listed as SFW, can engage in NSFW roleplay, and profile settings show or hide NSFW chatbots and blur explicit images. On paid tiers, Conversation Images have an NSFW Mode that allows "nude depictions of your character and explicit situations". Its guidelines ban, among others, characters who are minors, non-consensual content, incest and family roleplay, and photorealistic pornography.

The practical difference is images: SpicyChat allows explicit pictures on paid plans, Janitor allows none. Our NSFW AI girlfriend apps guide compares the written rules of more platforms.

Age checks: where each one asks

Elsewhere both rely on you confirming you are 18. Inside the listed regions the checks differ:

Janitor AISpicyChat
WhereAustralia, Brazil and the UK, by IP addressFrance, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, by IP address
What it unlocksAccess to the siteNSFW content only; unverified users can still use the platform
MethodOne-time k-ID check: on-device facial age estimation, government ID scan or AgeKeyThird-party video selfie with an ID fallback (ID with face match in some regions)
What the platform receivesA pass or fail resultA yes or no; the partner deletes the images under its own standards

The 26 states include Texas, Florida, Virginia and Utah; the full list is on SpicyChat's age-verification page, which carries no date. UK users face an extra wrinkle on Janitor: it blocked the UK from July 24, 2025, while a help article updated in June 2026 lists the UK among the age-check countries. Background is on our page about the UK's planned 18+ rule for AI companions.

Phone apps: store betas vs web and APK

Janitor has official apps called "Janitor: Interactive Stories" on the App Store (rated 18+) and Google Play (1M+ downloads), both in public beta since February 7, 2026. They start in Restricted Mode, which blocks characters with higher content scores and checks chats for keywords, in line with Apple's rule that incidental NSFW content from a web service must be hidden by default and switched on through the website.

SpicyChat has no iPhone app: an official notice of August 27, 2025 says Apple removed it for not complying with its guidelines, and a US App Store search on October 20, 2026 still found none. iPhone users can add the web app to the home screen. On Android, SpicyChat offers an APK from its own download page rather than Google Play. Device picks are in our lists for iPhone and Android.

Privacy terms

  • Policy age: Janitor's privacy policy was updated September 17, 2026. SpicyChat's is stamped May 4, 2023 and does not mention chat content at all.
  • Selling data: Janitor says it does not sell personal data under the CCPA/CPRA and never shares private conversations for advertising. SpicyChat's policy has no such statement, and its Terms license chats "in any way, including copying, displaying, selling, distributing, and modifying it, for any purpose".
  • Training: neither says clearly whether chats train its models, and neither describes an opt-out.
  • Staff access: Janitor does not say whether staff can read private chats. SpicyChat's Terms say it "may access, review, edit, and delete Your content at any time and for any reason".
  • Deletion: both offer in-app account deletion (Janitor after a grace period); neither documents a chat export.

Our AI companion privacy guide compares these terms across all the apps we track.

Cancelling and refunds

Janitor: Settings, Billing, Manage Subscription on the web, or the App Store or Google Play for app purchases; subscriptions are "generally non-refundable" except where the Terms or the law require it. SpicyChat: Profile, Manage Subscription; its refund policy (October 7, 2026) says fees are non-refundable once your login has been used. Try the free tier first; our cancellation guide has store steps.

Which one should you pick?

  • Best for free use: Janitor AI. Unlimited chats with about twice SpicyChat's free context.
  • Best for choosing your own model: Janitor AI. A documented API setup on any plan, plus the Router for subscribers.
  • Best for phones: Janitor AI. Store apps on iPhone and Android, though in beta and restricted by default.
  • Best for memory tools: SpicyChat. Memory Manager, automatic Semantic Memory and up to 32K context on paid tiers.
  • Best for images, voice and group chats: SpicyChat. Janitor offers none of the three today.
  • Lowest entry price: SpicyChat. $5.95 a month, though that tier keeps the free context size.
