SpicyChat is the closest match for adult roleplay with more built in: a large library of user-made characters, group chats with 2 to 10 bots, lorebooks, Director Mode and Character.AI card import. Its FAQ says every chatbot can do NSFW roleplay. The free tier has no published message cap, but less room than Janitor: a 4,096-token context and replies of up to 180 tokens, and paid plans skip a waiting line.

Paying unlocks what Janitor lacks: Memory Manager from $5.95 a month, automatic Semantic Memory and scene images from $19.95, and up to 32K context with text-to-speech at $29.95 (prices after the September 2026 rise). More than ten models are offered by tier, but no own-API option is documented. CrushOn.AI puts many models in one picker without an API key: in-house models (Leo, Taurus, Mochi, Sagittarius) next to third-party ones its wiki names as Claude, Gemini, GPT, Kimi, GLM, DeepSeek, Mistral, Command R and Qwen. Free Models are unlimited on every plan, while Pro Models use the free plan's 100 monthly credits. Memory is also more automatic than Janitor's: 8K context free, 16K from $5.99 a month, 24K on Elite, with auto-summarization, pinned messages and saved memories.

The trade-offs: per-model credit costs are not published, free chat history is deleted after 7 days of inactivity, and explicit images need a login, two daily check-ins and 50 credits spent (some users report an extra $0.99 card check, unconfirmed). There is no official store app, only an APK or an iPhone web app, and the privacy policy lets chats train its models with no opt-out. It adds voice messages and voice cloning, which Janitor lacks.

Character.AI is the biggest free option: unlimited messaging on every plan, a library of 10M+ characters, character definitions of up to 32,000 characters, free two-way voice calls and a chat export. It has native iOS and Android apps and optional paid plans ($4.99 lite, $9.99 c.ai+ in the US).

Two big caveats. Adult content is banned for everyone, adults included, and filters are permanent. And Character Technologies filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026; the platform may be wound down if no buyer keeps it running (see our Chapter 11 news). Nomi answers Janitor's biggest weakness. It keeps short-, medium- and long-term memory on its own, with an Identity Core and Mind Map 2.0, an editable map of what each companion remembers. You create your own companions and group chats rather than browsing a community library, and Backstory+ fields such as Current Roleplay set up scenes.

The free plan gives 50 messages a day (up to 400 characters each), not unlimited chat. Voice calls, group chats and video need the Standard plan ($15.99 a month on the US App Store). Text chat is marketed as unfiltered, but nude images are not permitted. There is no model choice or own-API option, sign-up requires Google or Apple, and the policy says personal data will not be sold.

Talkie is a free, ad-supported character community on the web, Android and iOS (where the listing is called "Talkie Lab"), with creation tools Janitor lacks: AI image, video, audio and music generation, plus revenue sharing for creators. Its models come from MiniMax, so there is no model choice.

It is strictly safe-for-work: the guidelines ban explicit and even suggestive sexual content. Its Terms set the minimum age at 14 (16 in some countries), so the community is not adults-only. The cheapest monthly subscription item on the US App Store costs $9.99, memory is described as "technically limited", and there is no chat export.

Muah AI offers controls Janitor users ask for: an AI Core selector with a temperature setting and automatic fallback, an editable Core Prompt, optional memory compaction, and chat export as PNG or HTML plus full backups. It also has voice messages, live calls on its top tier, photos and short videos, and a no-login demo.

Approach with care. Prices appear only after login, its privacy policy dates from 2022 and states no encryption, retention or training rules, and in 2024 a breach exposed 1.9 million email addresses together with users' prompts, according to Have I Been Pwned. It is web-only with an Android APK, and subscriptions are "NOT refundable" except at support's discretion.
