Janitor AI's help center describes "millions of bots", and its home page invites you to "join 15M+ users". You can browse by tags such as male, female, OC, anime and villain, follow creators, and read public chats that others published and can fork. Creators get a bio with HTML, up to 10 tags, personality, scenario, several initial messages, example dialogue, scripts and lorebooks (beta), custom CSS, scheduled releases, creator analytics and verification.

Every character carries a Limited tag (no sexual or romantic traits) or a Limitless tag. Adult content between consenting adult characters is allowed; automated tools screen all published content and humans review reports. The platform is 18+, with k-ID age checks in the UK, Australia and Brazil, and its mobile apps start in a Restricted Mode. Free chats are unlimited. See the Janitor AI review.

SpicyChat's download page claims a "library of 300K+ NSFW characters", and you can browse public chatbots, groups and lorebooks by tag, leaderboard and recommendations. Creators make unlimited characters on every plan, choose public, unlisted or private visibility and, separately, whether others can see the definition. Characters can be imported from Character.AI card files, and a creator leaderboard comes with analytics.

A profile setting shows or hides NSFW chatbots, and the FAQ notes that any chatbot, including those listed as SFW, can engage in NSFW roleplay. The Community Guidelines prohibit characters under 18, non-consensual content and incest, and public pages are moderated by staff and community helpers. CrushOn.AI's catalogue has Characters, Memories and Creators tabs, rankings and dozens of tags. You can create a character from a few fields or import one as JSON, and plans allow 10 profile cards on Free up to 400 on Imperial. Its September 2026 Terms add a creator economy: users can gift Diamonds to creators and unlock their Paid Content, and creators can earn Creator Rewards.

Content starts Filtered, with Unfiltered and Hidden Content switches for adults. The wiki FAQ says character cards "are not reviewed by moderation", while the Community Guidelines bar sexual content in avatars and prohibit characters who are minors. Talkie's library of user-made "Talkies" spans categories, tags, trending lists and several languages, on the web, Android (50M+ downloads) and iPhone, where the official link opens "Talkie Lab - AI Playground". The "Create a Talkie" tool adds image, video, audio and music creation; creators of original, copyright-compliant characters can earn a revenue share, and original authors can get a yellow badge.

Chai's store listing promises "a massive selection of characters", and anyone can create one and keep it private or share it. Its Safety Center says Chai is strictly 18+, with Persona age checks, and that its models are designed to refuse sexually explicit content; users can also hide explicit messages, filter mature content in search, block characters and report anonymously.

It is mobile only, free with ads in many regions but paid-only in some, and publishes no pricing page or refund policy. Creation fields are not documented. Read our Chai review.

Character.AI's home page offers "10M+ Characters", and its creator tools are the most detailed here: a Character Definition of up to 32,000 characters with example dialogue, up to 5 extra greetings, an intro video, a voice from the library or cloned from your own 3 to 15 second clip, and public, unlisted or private visibility. Creators cannot see users' chats with their characters, and messaging is free and unlimited.

Pornographic content is banned for everyone, and users verified as under 18 cannot chat. It ranks here because Character Technologies filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026, and the platform will be wound down if no acceptable bid keeps it running. GirlfriendGPT, run by NextDay AI (also behind SpicyChat), lists user-made characters with creator handles, chat counts, tags and content ratings, plus a Top Creators page and trending lists. Quick Create and Custom Create let you publish your own.
